{"id":9,"date":"2019-03-25T17:22:46","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T17:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2020-10-05T08:49:09","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T12:49:09","slug":"tools","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This page describes different software packages useful in soaring.\u00a0 Most of these are FREE for non-commercial use.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve tried to divide into simple categories and also provide site\/download links.\u00a0 Most of these are tools you&#8217;ll find referenced in tutorials.\u00a0 <em>Again,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/join-us\/\"> your suggestions<\/a> are welcome and we&#8217;ll credit your name on the site!<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/jsigc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jsigc <\/a>&#8211; Click on the link and this utility will allow to upload an IGC flight recording and view the ground track and altitude for the entire flight.\u00a0 Real easy to use.\u00a0 Created by Alistair Malcolm Green and Richard Brisbourne, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/alistairmgreen\/jsigc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download the entire source from github<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Club Management &#8211; membership, duty scheduling, aircraft scheduling\/status<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/fly-a-free-membership-scheduling-package\/\">FLY<\/a> &#8211; A web based package that takes care of common requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Condor 2 Scenery Creation &#8211; Landscapes<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Condor_tiles<\/a> &#8211; A great tool currently supported by Nick Bonniere.\u00a0 No dedicated documentation, but some tutorials contain detailed instructions on use.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.condorsoaring.com\/downloads-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Condor Soaring<\/a> &#8211; Start here for landscape creation tools and documentation.\u00a0 Many other tutorial will reference tools\/guides that you&#8217;ll find here.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/downloads\/\">Scenery Check<\/a> &#8211; Written by Phillipe Duclos. This utility helps landscape developers to validate their work and to find errors (as missing or misconfigured objects).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Condor 2 Scenery Creation &#8211; General\/Runway\/Airport Structures<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/downloads\/\">Airport Maker<\/a> &#8211; Written by Ji\u0159\u00ed Bro\u017eek.\u00a0 This utility is a real life saver after you&#8217;ve finished a scenery and now need a runway.\u00a0 It does a great job on creating a grass strip, expect support asphalt in the future!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blender.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blender<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0 This is the &#8216;gold standard&#8217; for 3D modelling.\u00a0 You could create the Starship Enterprise, but it does have a very steep learning curve and might be overkill for simple structures.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringtools.org\/index.php\/downloads\/\">Condor Check<\/a> &#8211; Written by Phillippe Duclos.\u00a0 This utility provides to basic users information on the installation of the software Condor2 and performs some checks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wings3d.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wings 3D<\/a> &#8211; Is a pretty useful program for creating 3D structures.\u00a0 Good for beginners in modeling, simpler to use than Blender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>General Purpose Scenery<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgc.umn.edu\/apps\/convert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Latitude\/Longitude Conversion<\/a> &#8211; Used to be only hours\/minutes,\/seconds, but many tools now use decimal hours, or decimal hours\/minutes.
